ORAL HISTORY
Alison Green
Alison Green, born in 1982, was raised in Lousiville, Kentucky. Her father often visited New Orleans. In 1995, at age 13, he took her to Jazz Fest, and she fell in love with the city. She got her first service industry job working in Louisville. Then, she worked in Cincinnati, Ohio. In December 2002, she moved to Chicago for college. She served at many restaurants in Chicago before working as a server at Girl and the Goat.
In 2014, her father’s health began to fail, and Green temporarily moved to New Orleans with a friend. After he passed away, Green permanently relocated to New Orleans and began working in restaurants there. In 2019, she became a server at Bywater American Bistro. When New Orleans shut down the city in March 2020, Green decided to move back to Louisville. With the loss of her income as a server and event photographer, she moved back to her childhood home. During the Pandemic, she photographed outdoor equestrian events. In 2021, Green returned to New Orleans and took jobs that summer and fall serving at Rosalita’s and Bayona, respectively.
