Oral Histories

The SFA oral history program documents life stories from the American South. Collecting these stories, we honor the people whose labor defines the region. If you would like to contribute to SFA’s oral history collections, please send your ideas for oral history along with your CV or Resume and a portfolio of prior oral history work to info@southernfoodways.org.

ORAL HISTORY

Lauren Cox

Georgia Organics

Lauren grew up and attended college in Arkansas. Her family influences in food and farming included her mother and her Aunt Mary. She studied at Slow Food University in Italy and owned and operated her own farm in Georgia prior to working for Georgia Organics in her current role, where she connects organic producers to restaurant markets across the state.

COVID significantly impacted her daily work of building relationships between farmers and restauranteurs, and she describes her new initiatives designed to help farmers ride out the pandemic and maintain connections to restaurants, including a pop-up farmer’s market and relief supply chain that provides produce to out-of-work restaurant staff.
