Oral Histories

The SFA oral history program documents life stories from the American South. Collecting these stories, we honor the people whose labor defines the region. If you would like to contribute to SFA’s oral history collections, please send your ideas for oral history along with your CV or Resume and a portfolio of prior oral history work to info@southernfoodways.org.

ORAL HISTORY

Kate White

Winebow

Born in 1980, Kate White grew up throughout the Southeast United States. White began in the restaurant industry selling wine in small, private restaurants. In 2018, White joined Winebow, a wine distribution company. She saw it as a more sustainable way to make a living than traditional food and beverage jobs. White is a sales representative for Athens and the surrounding areas. She services a variety of establishments from small convenience stores to large retail and restaurants.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, White’s job required her to spend time visiting retail spaces in her sales territory and work with them to find the best products for their needs. The pandemic hindered White and her colleagues’ wine sales to restaurants. In her interview, White discusses how she and her colleagues adapted to changing alcohol sales.
