Oral Histories

The SFA oral history program documents life stories from the American South. Collecting these stories, we honor the people whose labor defines the region. If you would like to contribute to SFA’s oral history collections, please send your ideas for oral history along with your CV or Resume and a portfolio of prior oral history work to info@southernfoodways.org.

ORAL HISTORY

Elinor Reina

The Veil Brewing

Elinor Reina is Tasting Room Manager for The Veil Brewing’s Scott’s Addition location. She grew up in Port Chester, NY, in a close-knit community of family friends. Elinor’s mother taught her how to cook at a young age, and Elinor was exposed to large events of food and drink through her parents’ community gatherings. She pursued theater in high school, college, and during her early professional career. Elinor discovered the craft beer scene while living in Denver, CO, and in Portland, ME. In 2017, she joined the craft brew industry full-time at Trillium Brewing’s taproom in south Boston, MA. She made her way down to Richmond, VA in 2019 and started working for The Veil Brewing at their flagship location in the Scott’s Addition neighborhood. Elinor and others at The Veil shifted to a full packaging and delivery crew to make it through the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the aspects of craft beer in Richmond that Elinor values is the community collaboration and support. She is also an active member of the Richmond chapter of the Pink Boots Society, a national organization that supports women and non-binary people in the alcoholic beverage industry.
