ORAL HISTORY
Daniel Gagnon
Broadfork Farm
Daniel Gagnon is a regenerative farmer based in Moseley, Virginia. Born in Massachusetts, Daniel’s journey to farming began with a deep love for ecology, biology, and the outdoors. His early career in environmental restoration projects with AmeriCorps introduced him to the potential of small-scale organic farming and set the stage for his future in agriculture. Daniel and his wife Janet established Broadfork Farm, transforming degraded land into a thriving, sustainable operation. Their regenerative practices include cover cropping, minimal tillage, and organic composting, all aimed at improving soil health, preserving biodiversity, and producing nutrient-rich vegetables. Committed to fostering connections between land, food, and community, Broadfork Farm sells its produce directly to consumers through farmers markets, CSAs, and local partnerships. With an emphasis on slow, steady growth and environmental stewardship, Daniel combines science, hands-on experience, and collaboration with other growers to contribute to a resilient local food system. His work reflects a deep belief in the power of regenerative agriculture to heal both the earth and the communities it sustains.
