Each year, the Southern Foodways Alliance celebrates men and women whose lifework enriches Southern food culture. Seven SFA awards and honors recognize these cultural standard bearers.

Shanequa Gay


Do Good Fellow Shanequa Gay is an Atlanta native who completed her BA in Painting from The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and her MFA in Multidisciplinary Studio Art at Georgia State University. Gay was commissioned for mural projects by the Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee and by The Congressional Club to complete illustrations for First Lady Michelle Obama. Gay’s work includes television and film features, various solo and group exhibitions locally and nationally at galleries, museums, and institutions. She has also held prestigious residencies including Independent Study in Iwakuni, Japan and an Artist-in-Residence in Johannesburg, South Africa.
