Oral Histories

The SFA oral history program documents life stories from the American South. Collecting these stories, we honor the people whose labor defines the region. If you would like to contribute to SFA’s oral history collections, please send your ideas for oral history along with your CV or Resume and a portfolio of prior oral history work to info@southernfoodways.org.

ORAL HISTORY

Randy Jordan & Ken Jordan

Two Brothers Bar-B-Que

Randy Jordan grew up at Two Brothers Bar-B-Que, which is tucked away in the hills of northwest Georgia. Randy’s father, Ken, and uncle, Grady, founded Two Brothers in 1974. At the time, the Jordan brothers had recently been laid off from their jobs, so they decided to take some old family recipes and an empty grocery store built by their father to open a barbecue restaurant.

Randy worked odd jobs around the restaurant throughout his childhood and came on full-time after graduating high school. The menu at Two Brothers is small and focused, and almost everything is made fresh in-house. They smoke about sixty hams a week in an electric smoker; the chopped pork and the secret family recipe for Brunswick Stew are the biggest sellers. Besides the savory barbecue, Two Brothers is memorable for the vast collection of rural artifacts that adorn the ceiling and walls.
