Oral Histories

The SFA oral history program documents life stories from the American South. Collecting these stories, we honor the people whose labor defines the region. If you would like to contribute to SFA’s oral history collections, please send your ideas for oral history along with your CV or Resume and a portfolio of prior oral history work to info@southernfoodways.org.

ORAL HISTORY

Kevin Guyer & Kerry O'Donoghue

Poultry in Motion Farm

Husband-and-wife duo Kevin Guyer and Kerry O’Donoghue own and operate Poultry in Motion Farm, which produces eggs, herbs, breads, and canned goods. Both from New England, Kevin and Kerry met in Portsmouth, NH, when Kevin owned a record store that Kerry frequented as a patron. Kerry had grown up around organic gardening for much of her life, and the couple continued the practice in the New England soil. Kevin and Kerry balanced their jobs in the computer industry with their passion for gardening and Kevin’s passion for music. Through their network in the music community, the pair learned about the charming town of Oxford, MS, and relocated to Water Valley, just outside of Oxford, in the early 2000s. With Mississippi’s longer growing season, Kevin and Kerry eventually formed Poultry in Motion, which led them to plant an expansive farm-like garden on their property. Kevin manages much of the farming and the bread-making for Poultry in Motion, while Kerry attends to the chickens, sweet breads, and canned goods. For the future, Kevin and Kerry hope to supply herbs to local restaurants and to continue acting as a vendor for the Oxford Community Market, where they get to interact with all kinds of people from the north Mississippi community.
