Oral Histories

The SFA oral history program documents life stories from the American South. Collecting these stories, we honor the people whose labor defines the region. If you would like to contribute to SFA’s oral history collections, please send your ideas for oral history along with your CV or Resume and a portfolio of prior oral history work to info@southernfoodways.org.

ORAL HISTORY

Bridgette Gordon & Talisha Gordon

Live Again Events, LLC

Mother and daughter Bridgette and Talisha Gordon operate Live Again Events, LLC, an organization that promotes women’s welfare in north Mississippi. Both originally from Abbeville, MS, Bridgette and Talisha grew up around cooking and good food through the influence of Bridgette’s grandmother, and Talisha’s great-grandmother, Idell Isom, who taught both women to finish their plates before leaving the table. Bridgette was interested in cooking from a young age and learned from the women in her community how to make green bean casserole, homemade biscuits, red velvet cake, and other creations. Talisha joined her mother in cooking for the community in college, while attending the University of Mississippi. The two women formed Live Again Events in 2016 as a small women’s ministry to support women learning to cook in the community. At the Oxford Community Market, Live Again Events specializes in pound cakes, made with a variety of ingredients, from sugar, to Splenda, to lemon, and even zucchini.
