The SugarBeat Project

Columbia, South Carolina-based photographer and filmmaker Roni Henderson-Day follows Tahirah Shakir of Sugar Beat, LLC as she sources, roasts, grinds, and simmers local, organic peanuts into a Southern take on West African peanut stew. The Sugarbeat Project celebrates African cultural retention in African American Southern cooking as well as the resilience and innovation inherent in their journey.
