Each year, the Southern Foodways Alliance celebrates men and women whose lifework enriches Southern food culture. Seven SFA awards and honors recognize these cultural standard bearers.

2016 Smith Fellow: Tunde Wey


Tunde Wey is a writer and chef from Nigeria currently living in New Orleans. He has created notable food concepts in Detroit and New Orleans and facilitates a traveling dinner and dialogue dinner series exploring Blackness in America. His food work has been written about in the New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, and other media outlets. Tunde’s writing has been published in the Oxford American, Boston Globe, and Okay Africa.
