Oral Histories

The SFA oral history program documents life stories from the American South. Collecting these stories, we honor the people whose labor defines the region. If you would like to contribute to SFA’s oral history collections, please send your ideas for oral history along with your CV or Resume and a portfolio of prior oral history work to info@southernfoodways.org.

ORAL HISTORY

Kirby Jones

La Vie En Rose Café

Kirby is a New Orleans native with local family ties dating back to the late 1800s. The women in her family passed down treasured recipes and a love for hosting. Now raising her own New Orleans family, Kirby is thrilled to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere and celebration of local culture at her café.

Initially conceived as a noteworthy popup with a citywide following, La Vie En Rose Café has grown steadily over the years. During king cake season, she offers a unique, roseflavored Queen Cake as well as a crawfishfilled, “Don Creole” king cake. As her business continues to expand, Kirby is looking forward to upping production and bringing these Mardi Gras specialties to even more customers during Carnival seasons to come.
