The Southern Foodways Alliance is delighted to welcome Rosalind Bentley to the team as Deputy Editor for Gravy.

Bentley is the Interim Director of the Narrative Nonfiction MFA Program in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. Her column for Gravy, called “Rooted in Place,” was a two-time James Beard Award finalist and her work has been recognized in Best American Essays, 2021 edition, and anthologized in Best American Newspaper Narratives. She has written for the New York Times, the Oxford American, Southern Living, and Essence magazine, among others. Previously, she worked as an enterprise reporter and senior culture writer at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Minneapolis Star Tribune, where she was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for a special project on race relations in Minnesota.

Gravy and the SFA record the modern history of the South through food in an essential way. I’m so excited to help further that mission,” Bentley said.
