Education

The Southern Foodways Alliance is an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi.

Fellowships

The SFA underwrites a Nathalie Dupree Graduate Fellow each academic year. These fellowships are available to qualified students in the Southern Studies MA program at the University of Mississippi.

Alexandra Santiago

Alexandra Santiago is a San Antonio, Texas, native, but has been living in Oxford since 2009. She spent the last 13 years working as a chef and bartender around town, until she ultimately opened her own restaurant, Sleepy Cactus, in 2021. Though the restaurant is now closed, she still provides Oxford with homemade breakfast tacos at Heartbreak Coffee. Ale is currently in the first year of the Southern Studies masters program, and as the SFA Nathalie Dupree Graduate Fellow she will be working closely with SFA’s oral historian to assist in the processing and archiving of SFA’s oral history work. When she’s not reading for school she can be found knitting in her garden or bird watching with her fiancé, 2 dachshunds, and 3 cats.
