Vishwesh Bhatt: The South I Love

This summer, SFA summer documentary film intern Nicole Du Bois spent two months in Oxford working on a short documentary film with SFA’s Pihakis Foodways Documentary Filmmaker, Ava Lowrey.

It doesn’t take long to notice that Vishwesh Bhatt, Executive Chef at SNACKBAR in Oxford, Mississippi is different. His passion for Southern Foodways, the correlation it has to the food he grew up eating in India, and his choice to live and work in the South set him apart. Using flavors familiar from childhood, Vishwesh Bhatt is adding to the lexicon of southern food traditions. Follow along as he recounts his journey from cooking for beer money to celebrated chef.
