The SFA’s James Beard Award-winning Gravy seeks a paid intern to assist with the production of a podcast and print journal. Duties for the podcast include researching music for scoring, story research, scripting and recording donor mentions, and some writing for the SFA’s website and social media. Duties for the journal include art and photo research, joining conference calls during editorial planning meetings, offering suggestions for new writers and article topics, reading articles before layout to suggest pull quotes, titles, subheds, and department names for the designer to use; writing photo captions, and proofreading. Gravy preferences Chicago Style (rather than AP), and also has an in-house style sheet.
To be considered for this internship, you should have some experience in radio/podcast storytelling, a strong creative background, solid writing and audio editing skills, and a proven independent work ethic. The intern should be eager to familiarize him/herself with Gravy and the larger work and mission of the SFA.
SFA uses a variety of freelance producers and reporters located across the country; the rest of the SFA’s staff is based at the University of Mississippi. Interns may be based anywhere as long as they are self-starters. Interns receive a stipend of $2,000. We ask for a commitment of 10-15 hours per week for 22 weeks.
Graduate students and non-students alike are eligible for this internship. For more information, contact [email protected]. To apply, submit a cover letter, resume, and examples of past audio and print work (if available) to the same address. Deadline for submission is January 31, 2018.
