and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Mississippi
The Southern Foodways Alliance, along with the Center for the Study of Southern Culture, and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Mississippi, will host our fourth annual Graduate Student Conference at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS, September 19-20. Attendance is free and open to the public.
This year’s keynote speaker, Krishnendu Ray, is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at NYU. He taught for a decade at the Culinary Institute of America and was the Acting Dean of Curriculum Development before coming to NYU in 2005. He is the author of The Migrant’s Table: Meals and Memories in Bengali-American Households (Temple, 2004), The Ethnic Restaurateur (Bloomsbury, 2016), and the co-editor of Curried Cultures: Globalization, Food and South Asia (2012). He is the President of the Association for the Study of Food and Society.
