Johnny Goins learned to rack pool from James “Preacher” Cottrell as a young boy accompanying his grandmother to Manchester, Kentucky’s pool hall, Pat’s Snack Bar. Not only did he go on to rack pool at Pat’s but he learned to make Pat’s famous chili from manager Juanita Hilbert—the matriarch of the place. For a brief stint, Johnny opened his own restaurant, J&J, in the style of Pat’s Snack Bar, but he was quickly lured back. He still works there six days a week, and talks about Pat as a father figure.
