Together with the Oxford Film Festival, the Southern Foodways Alliance will participate in the third annual Pop Up Oxford event series. Held annually in January, Pop-Up Oxford 2019 features a Fiber Arts Festival, an Art Crawl, live music at several venues in town, and sporting events, among other activities. On January 21, following an MLK Day breakfast at Second Baptist Church, SFA and the Oxford Film Festival will share Mississippi Monday Movies at the Burns-Belfry Museum (710 Jackson Ave. East). The event will showcase eight documentary shorts spanning the state and highlighting significant historical events—including the 1963 sit-in at the Woolworth’s lunch counter in Jackson, Mississippi. At least two films will profile area locals, chef Vishwesh Bhatt of Snackbar and Annie and Bill Hollowell of Foxfire Ranch in Waterford, Mississippi. Following the screening there will be a panel discussion with filmmakers and narrators featured in the films. Je’Monda Roy, a Southern Studies MFA student, will moderate.

Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
