We know we’ve been regularly featuring barbecue Fridays of late, but thought we’d switch things up today and talk about empanadas. Peach ones, to be exact. ‘Tis the season, you know. This film, made for the 2016 SFSA summer symposium in Nashville, features Karla Ruiz. Ruiz is making her peach empanadas to share at the Egerton Prize Awards reception on August 12, at the 21c Museum Hotel.
Join us on Sunday to celebrate John Egerton’s legacy, and honor two prize winners: The Neighbor’s Field, a project assisting former refugees practicing sustainable agriculture in Comer, Georgia, and Fresh Future Farm, an urban farm and grocery working to improve food access in North Charleston, South Carolina. The awards ceremony at the Nashville Public Library begins at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
A reception will follow at the 21c Museum Hotel. Tickets for the reception, which will include drinks, bites from Rob Newton of Gray & Dudley, and these wonderful peach empanadas from Ruiz, are $50 and available here.
