Charles Stivers now owns Pat’s Snack Bar, the local gathering place in Manchester, KY, a logging and coal mine town. Originally opened as a pool hall by Pat House in 1947, renovations have expanded Pat’s to include a restaurant and bar, still famous for the sandwiches, cheeseburgers (no lettuce), and chili buns which Pat started serving back in 1952. Charles first encountered chili buns at Manchester’s Drive-In, where they served his wife’s great-great-aunt, Peanut Abner’s chili. He thinks Peanut’s chili is better than Pat’s.
