Back in November, we reported (for the second time) that Weaver D’s in Athens, Georgia, was to close just prior to Thanksgiving. Well, the folks in Athens are having none of that and are doing all they can to help Dexter Weaver continue doing this thing.

Rance Nix, a senior at UGA, has rallied around his favorite restaurant–and restauranteur–to keep Weaver D’s open. Rance emailed us last night, announcing the plan for “Automatic Saturday”:

I saw your write up about Weaver Ds on the Southern Foodways Alliance site. Weaver D’s, has been saying it’s going to close for a while now. As one of the restaurant’s biggest fans, I couldn’t let the restaurant or Mr. Dexter, the owner go out without style. Business picked up when he announced that he was closing and he decided to stick around, but he’s still only “surviving.”

I asked him if I could help him make an event to get people to come out to the restaurant and we came up with “Automatic Saturday!” this Saturday, January 25, 2014. It will be a day “to celebrate good food for good people and to support the legend Mr. Dexter Weaver.”

You can find out more about “Automatic Saturday” on the event’s Facebook page.
