SFA’s 2016 Oral History Workshop participants traveled in pairs throughout Atlanta collecting oral histories of the city’s foodways. NaVosha Copeland and Bang Tran interviewed Jiyeon Lee and Cody Taylor of Heirloom Market BBQ. The pair opened the restaurant in 2010, combining their native South Korea and Texas influences on Georgia barbecue.

SFA’s 2017 oral history workshop will be held in Atlanta, Georgia July 16-22, 2017.

Geared toward those who are new or moderately new to oral history methods and fieldwork, participants will think critically and creatively about the dissemination of oral histories and the impact recorded narratives have on communities and audiences.

This summer’s workshop will study and document stories along Buford Highway, partnering with We Love BuHi, a social enterprise supporting a livable, inclusive and thriving Buford Highway through storytelling, community building, and advocacy.
