As part of SFA’s 2017 focus on El Sur Latino we explore a series of dishes across the Southeast that reframe ideas of southern food.
Karla Ruiz grew up in Mexico City, Mexico, where she learned to cook with her grandmother and mother. After moving to Nashville in 2000, Karla learned to blend Mexican techniques with Southern American ingredients, like empanadas with Southern peaches. In 2005 she started her own company, Karla’s Catering, and recently she become the in-house caterer for the Women’s Club of Nashville. In this SFA Short she prepares one of her favorite dishes, peach empanadas.
