March 24-31 is National Farmworker Awareness Week, organized by Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) to bring attention to the conditions experienced by those who feed us and to celebrate their contributions. The Southern Foodways Alliance is proud to partner with SAF to bring you daily dispatches from March 24 to March 31 that conceptualize the many struggles facing America’s farmworkers.
I made this map based on critical cartography about farmworker justice, using quotes from 2014 SAF intern documentary interviews. I primarily wanted to show how the US-Mexico border is constructed and broken through the time span of decades as well as in a single day.– Catherine Crowe, 2015 SAF Fellow, Piedmont Health Services
