Donate Your Money
If membership dues are the meat-and-potatoes of the SFA budget, charitable donations are the gravy. And, boy, do we love gravy!
If you have extra dollars that you’d like to share with the SFA, here are a few creative ways to do it:
- Give gift memberships to friends. It’s always good to add new folks to our rolls. Offer a gift membership for birthdays or holidays, and the SFA will send a gift card on your behalf.
- Support the John Egerton Fund. Taking into account the leadership of writer and scholar John Egerton, the fund will disburse awards to artists, writers, and scholars whose work documents and celebrates the diverse food cultures of the American South and addresses issues of race, class, gender, and social justice through the lens of food. Designate a donation to this cause.
- Contribute to the end-of-year annual fund. The extra dough helps us tell more stories behind the food (and not just baking tales!)
- Contribute to the Order of the Okra. This new development initiative, launched in 2011, seeks a minimum of 50 motivated and devoted SFA-ers to donate $1,000 per year for a 10-year term. For your philanthropic investment, members in the Order of the Okra will be recognized as SFA underwriters and will receive SFA–designed lapel pins, inspired by a pod of okra, our region’s totemic vegetable.
