Much of the SFA staff has been on the West Coast for the better part of a week. Now we’re back. And we’re rollin’ and tumblin’.
Today, we welcomed Zac Henson, our new post doctoral fellow, fresh of out of UC Berkeley, where he received a doctorate in Environmental Science and wrote a dissertation, Separate Tables: Segregation, Gentrification, and the Commons in Birmingham, Alabama’s Alternative Food and Agriculture Movement.
Also crossing the threshold was Lindsey Reynolds, who comes to us from Austin. A graduate of UT, she also works with a colleague as a freelance bartender, under the noms du boisson of The Good Time Gals.
Last our friend Andy at the Powerhouse hung two Landon Nordeman photographs for us today. The one on the left, taken at Grady’s Barbecue in Dudley, NC was a gift of the artist. The one on the right, taken at Scott’s-Parker’s Bar-B-Q in Lexington, TN, was a gift of the family of the late poet Jake Adam York.
At this year’s Symposium, we’ll toast Jake and we’ll hear an homage to his good work by US Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey.
