Awards

Each year, the Southern Foodways Alliance celebrates men and women whose lifework enriches Southern food culture. Seven SFA awards and honors recognize these cultural standard bearers.

2017 Smith Fellow: Adante Hart

Adante Hart is a graduate student in the Master of Public Health in Nutrition/Registered Dietitian training program at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill. He also serves as an Ambassador for the Oldways African Heritage and Health Program, leading educational and culinary efforts focused on foods of the African Diaspora. His goal is to help others understand food in terms of both nutrition and a narrative. He enjoys his grits with salt, and is quick to judge anyone who eats grits with sugar.

WORKING TOGETHER

WE CAN CULTIVATE PROGRESS.

The Southern Foodways Alliance drives a more progressive future by leading conversations that challenge existing constructs, shape perspectives, and foster meaningful discussions. We reconsider the past with research, scrutiny, and documentation.
